Message This means that your A/C is cooling the ambient air inside your car that it has already cooled down. With recirc off, you are taking in fresh air from the outside (at whatever ambient temp and humidity), so the A/C is doing more work to keep the cabin at the set temp.

On cars that have A/C and Max A/C - the max setting typically closes the recirc door.

Also, when you first get to your car after it's been out in the sun, start with the A/C with the recirc off. The interior of the car is around 140 ~ 160 F while the ambient air outside the car is much less. You will cool down the car sooner by leaving the recirc off for about the first 10 minutes and then switch over to recirc if you want to.
